Development of a Prototype Soil Quality Indicator, Phase 2 (NYSERDA Agreement 7637-2) – This phase 2 study continues the successful phase 1 work that proved the feasibility of extending the electrical impedance measurement technology previously developed for asphalt density measurement (PQI™) to measuring soil compaction and moisture content in typical utility excavation and repair backfill soils.

Development of a Roller-Mounted PQI for Quality Control of Density Levels During Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Pavement Construction (OEMs)
– This is an on-going TransTech Systems project to modify/develop the existing PQI™ 301’s electrical impedance technology for non-contact use on OEM rollers for measuring HMA compaction on-the-run.

Safety Edge Maker ™ (SEM) Device to Address Pavement Shoulder Edge Drop-Off Dangers – Based on the patented technology developed for its Notched Wedge Joint Maker, TransTech Systems is adapting the technology in an innovative way to produce an entirely new device to solve the pavement shoulder edge drop-off problem.

Core Density Indicator (CDI) - This innovative and revolutionary concept will utilize TransTech Systems’ electrical impedance spectroscopy technology in a device that will rapidly measure the density of gyratory pucks and HMA cores in the field or in the lab, and do so in a non-nuclear way.

Soil and Asphalt Compaction Modeling –
One of the innovative and powerful R&D tools coming out of TransTech Systems’ Soil Quality Indicator (SQI) development program is the modeling of both soil compaction, for typical utility cut and repair backfill operations, and HMA compaction during road construction.

Development of a High Density Screed – TransTech’s innovative engineers and scientists are developing a screed that will provide compaction levels for Hot Mix Asphalt in the 90% to 93% range, at speeds that will be more than acceptable for any contractor in the U.S.

Non-Contact Pavement Quality Indicator (PQI ™) – Through TransTech Systems’ research and development of their cutting edge PQI™ electrical impedance technology and their current, innovative work with the Soil Quality Indicator (SQI™) multi-frequency, electrical impedance spectroscopy technology, it has been determined via their expert physics-based modeling techniques that there is a very strong likelihood that a non-contact device can be developed in the near future that will enable us to make density measurements at highway speeds and do so without having to be in contact with the mat surface.
